Tip of the day: deadlines, deductions and new tax rules

The first time you open Tallibook each day you may see one short tip: a federal tax deadline coming up, something from your own books, a new tax rule or a commonly missed deduction. Turn tips off in Settings → Notifications.

What you'll see

At most one tip a day, the first time you open Tallibook that day (in your business's time zone). It slides up from the bottom on a phone and pops up in the middle on a computer. It waits if something else is already on screen, so it never covers another message.

Tips come in this order:

  1. Step 1: Deadline: a federal tax deadline in the next 14 days, like a quarterly estimated tax payment, 1099-NEC forms (if you paid contractors), Tax Day or the October 15 extension date. You'll get a reminder about 14, 7 and 1 day before. When a date lands on a weekend or holiday, we show the real (later) due date.
  2. Step 2: From your books: something we noticed in your own records. For example, contractors you paid enough to need a 1099-NEC, no business-use % on your phone or internet bills, or, for drivers, agents and contractors, no trips logged in a while. Owners and admins also get a rough "set aside about $X" before each estimated tax payment. That number is an estimate, not tax advice.
  3. Step 3: New tax law: a recent federal change that helps small businesses.
  4. Step 4: Did you know?: deductions people often miss and habits that make tax time easier.

Tax tips link to the IRS.gov page they come from. Every tip is general information: check with your tax professional about your own situation. State deadlines aren't included yet.

Close it or read more

  • Tap Got it (or close it) and it goes away. You won't see that tip again for at least 90 days.
  • Tap Learn more to open the matching help article.
  • Missed it? Today's tip stays on Today as a small card for the rest of the day.

Team members see tips too, but tips with amounts or names from your books only go to owners and admins. Tips show on every plan, including when your books are read-only.

Turn tips off (or back on)

  • On the tip itself, tap Turn off daily tips.
  • Or go to Settings → Notifications (on a phone: More → Notifications) and switch Show daily tips off or on.

This is just for you: everyone on your team picks their own. While tips are on, the Friday reminder email also has one tip line; turning tips off removes it.
