Turn on two-step sign-in

Two-step sign-in asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone as well as your password; turn it on in Settings → Security, save your 10 backup codes, and you can trust your own devices for 30 days.

Updated

With two-step sign-in, signing in on a new phone or computer needs your password and a 6-digit code from an app on your phone. Even if someone learns your password, they can't get into your books. We recommend it for everyone.

What you need

A free authenticator app on your phone. Any of these work: Google Authenticator, Apple Passwords (built into iPhone), Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password or Authy.

Turn it on

  1. Step 1: Go to Settings → Security (on a phone: More → Security).
  2. Step 2: Tap Turn on two-step sign-in and type your password.
  3. Step 3: In your authenticator app, tap + and scan the QR code. On the same phone? Tap Open in my authenticator app, or type the setup key instead.
  4. Step 4: Type the 6-digit code the app shows and tap Turn it on.
  5. Step 5: Save your 10 backup codes somewhere safe (a password manager or a printed copy), then tap I saved these.

Signing in

After your password, type the code from the app. Codes change every 30 seconds. Tick Trust this device for 30 days on your own phone or computer and it won't ask again there for 30 days. Never tick it on a shared computer.

Lost your phone?

Tap Use a backup code instead and type one of your backup codes. Each one works once. Then set up your new phone: turn two-step sign-in off and on again in Settings → Security, or tap Make new backup codes if you're running low.

Lost your phone and your backup codes? Email hello@tallibook.com from your sign-in email. Once we've checked it's you, we turn two-step sign-in off, sign you out everywhere and email you to confirm. Then sign in with your password and turn it back on.

Your team

Owners and admins see who has it on in Settings → Team ("2-step on" or "2-step off"). Everyone turns it on for their own sign-in.
