Use Tallibook with TurboTax or other tax software

TurboTax doesn't import Schedule C files, so you type a handful of totals from your Schedule C summary; the Tax season pack page shows where each number goes.

Updated

Tallibook isn't connected to TurboTax or any tax software. Nothing is sent anywhere: you copy a handful of totals yourself. With your Schedule C summary open next to it, it takes about 15 minutes.

The steps are also on the Tax season pack page: tap Using TurboTax? Here's where each number goes.

The steps in TurboTax

  1. Step 1: Open the self-employment section. Search for "Schedule C" and use the Jump to link. Add your business and say you use the cash method.
  2. Step 2: Enter your income (line 1). Enter each 1099-NEC and 1099-K exactly as printed. Add money that wasn't on a 1099 (cash, checks, Zelle, commissions) as other self-employment income, so the total matches line 1. Don't count the same money twice.
  3. Step 3: Enter your expenses by category, line by line from your summary. Line 27b items go under other or miscellaneous expenses.
  4. Step 4: Meals (line 24b). Read the screen: if it asks for the full cost, enter what you spent; if it asks for the deductible amount, enter the line 24b amount. Never both.
  5. Step 5: Your car (line 9). Add each vehicle and its business miles from your mileage log, plus total and commuting miles from your odometer. TurboTax works out the standard mileage deduction. Enter parking and tolls where it asks.
  6. Step 6: Home office (line 30). Tallibook doesn't calculate this; TurboTax asks its own questions.
  7. Step 7: Contractors (line 11). Filing 1099-NEC forms is a separate step. See Vendors and 1099 contractors.
  8. Step 8: Check the result. TurboTax's net profit should be close to "Estimated net profit (line 31)" in your summary, minus any home office deduction.

Screen names change a little every year, but the flow stays the same.

H&R Block, TaxAct and others

Same idea: find the self-employment or Schedule C section, enter your 1099s and other income, then expenses by category, then vehicle miles. Line numbers match the IRS form in every program.
