We couldn't read my receipt

Your receipt is still saved; type the details in yourself, tap Try reading again, or retake the photo flat, in good light, with the total showing.

Updated

When a receipt can't be read, nothing is lost: the photo is saved, and you land on Check your receipt to type the details yourself.

Quick fixes

  • Tap Try reading again. It sometimes works on the second try.
  • Type the amount, Paid to, date and category yourself, then tap Looks good, save it.
  • Or tap Discard receipt, and retake the photo.

Getting a good photo

  • Lay the receipt flat on a dark, plain surface.
  • Use good light, without shadows or glare.
  • Get the whole receipt in, especially the total and the date.
  • Hold steady: blurry photos are the most common problem.
  • Long receipt? Fold away the middle so the store name and total are both in the shot.

"That doesn't look like a receipt"

We only read receipts, invoices and bills. Photos of something else can still be saved: fill in the details by hand.

The amount or date is wrong

We read what's printed, and sometimes a total is hard to make out. When we're unsure, a message asks you to double-check the amount and date. Fix anything before you save; nothing counts until you do.

Not in US dollars

If the receipt is in another currency, we flag it. Type the amount in US dollars, as it was charged to your card. Your card statement has the exact amount.

Receipts from emails or bulk uploads

If we can't read the total on a forwarded email or an uploaded receipt, its card in To review asks What did you pay?. Type the amount and tap Save, then decide as usual.
